SimpleAcceleration helps you measure and record straight-line walking. Review walking time, speed, steps and acceleration waveforms alongside participants, dates and notes. The app and all features are free. PREPARE A MEASUREMENT Choose a course of 5–50 m and a separate run-in of 0–5 m, in 0.1 m increments. Record the participant, usual or maximum walking instructions, walking aid and notes. Illustrated instructions explain device positioning. USE ONE OR TWO DEVICES With one device, hold it steadily in front of the chest or abdomen and choose manual timing or AR distance measurement. With two devices, hold or secure the measurement device at the waist and operate it from the other device. Tap Start at the start marker and Stop at the finish marker. With no run-in, start as walking begins. Update both devices to 10.0. Recording starts enabled for each new or repeated two-device measurement. Turn it off when not needed; reconnecting the same measurement preserves your choice. Video has no audio. If camera preparation fails, retry or continue without video. REVIEW STEPS WITH VIDEO AND WAVEFORMS Open Review and edit analysis in record details to check interval boundaries and all contacts. Correct automatic detections or register contacts one by one. Add, move or delete contacts, undo or redo edits, and resume automatically saved drafts. Choose a foot when marking a contact to alternate the next side. Side labels are optional. Before synchronization, contacts in the same video follow video time. If contacts from different time sources cannot be ordered, the app explains that synchronization is needed. Save and adopt the full review to recalculate steps and other measures using the displayed contacts. Fewer than 11 contacts are supported. Originals and previous revisions remain available. Five-cycle analysis is an additional option. Attach MOV/MP4 video from Photos or Files, replace it, export it or remove it. Without video, review the waveform. Work in portrait or landscape, zoom portrait video, or use a smaller iPad window. UNDERSTAND RESULTS AND HISTORY Results include time, mean speed, steps, cadence, gait-cycle duration, three-axis acceleration RMS, autocorrelation (AC), harmonic ratio (HR) and gait-cycle duration variability (CV). Review calculation status, saved cycle counts and unavailable reasons for each AC/HR axis. Jump to contacts that could not form a usable cycle. Short walks may provide only short-segment estimates or unavailable measures. Handheld device-axis analysis is distinguished from waist-mounted trunk reference measures. View participant history or compare two records. Reasons are shown when different conditions or methods prevent comparison. SAVE AND SHARE Records and waveforms stay on the device. There is no automatic deletion based on record count; free storage is required. Export adopted results as CSV, PDF, waveform images or video. Export contacts and JSON backups containing the original, revisions and draft. Video files are not included in JSON backups; export them separately. Older saved results are not automatically recalculated. BEFORE USE For one-device mode, keep the screen facing you and the rear camera facing forward. At the waist, secure the device vertically, top upward, screen outward behind you and rear camera toward your back. AR distance is experimental. Validity of acceleration, step estimates and detailed analysis in real walking is still being assessed. Treat results as reference values. HR means harmonic ratio, a measure of within-cycle symmetry, not heart rate. Numerical changes do not assess clinical improvement or deterioration. The app is not intended for diagnosis, treatment decisions or fall-risk assessment. Continue normal supervision and assistance. Japanese and English screens, audio guidance and exports are supported.
