Ganas: Learn Spanish

It's 11 p.m. You opened Instagram "for a second" forty minutes ago. And you've meant to learn Spanish for years. Ganas puts those two things in the same place. Pick the apps that eat your time and Ganas locks them. To get back in, answer a few Spanish cards. Every right answer earns 30 seconds. When the time runs out, the lock comes back on its own. No new habit to build. The app you already open ten times a day becomes your Spanish practice. YOU WANT OFF YOUR PHONE Screen Time limits sit one tap away from "Ignore limit". Blockers take your apps away and give you nothing back. Ganas makes it a trade: a few words for a few minutes. Flashcards won't make you fluent, and we won't pretend they will. They will give you the words, a few at a time, out of time you were spending on your phone anyway. YOU'RE MOVING SOMEWHERE SPANISH-SPEAKING A move leaves no room for a class. It leaves plenty of room for scrolling: listings, expat groups, moving vlogs. Ganas turns that scrolling into daily reps, so you land with words for the landlord, the pharmacy and the neighbor instead of zero. YOUR FAMILY SPEAKS SPANISH AND YOU ANSWER IN ENGLISH Understanding a lot is a head start. Your first round of eight cards places you, so you skip what you already know, past the 2,336 most common words if you're ready. Speaking cards then let you say it out loud, with nobody listening. SPANISH THAT STICKS • 4,935 words from A1 to C2, the most common first • Latin American Spanish, with audio for every word and every example sentence • Every word comes in a sentence, so you learn how it's used • Multiple choice, typed answers, fill in the blank, el or la, listening, sentence building and speaking • Spaced repetition brings each word back right before you'd forget it SAY IT OUT LOUD Reading Spanish is one thing. Answering is where most people freeze. Now and then a card plays a sentence and asks you to say it back, and your iPhone checks the words. Two tries, no audience. Not a good moment? Tap "I can't speak now" and speaking cards step aside for a while. HOW THE LOCK WORKS • Choose the apps to lock with Apple's Screen Time • Each right answer earns 30 seconds, or more if you change the rate • Earned time only counts down while you're inside your locked apps • Bank up to 60 minutes • Adding an app is instant. Taking one off the list takes 24 hours, and so does raising the rate, so a 1 a.m. impulse can't undo the deal you made with yourself SOMETHING TO SHOW FOR YOUR SCREEN TIME • A streak fed by the apps you already open • A daily goal you set yourself, and your best streak on record to beat • Words learned, levels cleared, and a list of the words you missed until you win them back PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account, no sign-up. Your Screen Time data stays on your iPhone, and Ganas never saves what you say on speaking cards. Anonymous usage statistics only. Every minute you spend in Ganas comes out of time your phone was going to take anyway. Spend it on Spanish. Ganas Pro is an auto-renewing subscription: yearly with a 7-day free trial, or monthly. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
