Description
Wiccan Clock divides the daylight into twelve hours and the darkness into twelve more, the way the hours were reckoned before clocks were mechanical. Each one is ruled by a classical planet in the Chaldean order, and the first hour after sunrise belongs to the planet that names the day. That is where the names of our weekdays come from. A DIAL FOR RIGHT NOW The twenty-four hours are drawn at their real lengths, so a summer day lays long gilt hours across the top of the ring and short indigo ones beneath. The present hour glows in its planet's own metal, and the card below tells you what that hour is for. A SCHEDULE FOR ANY DAY Step to any date and read the whole twenty-four, with sunrise, sunset and the length of each hour. Hours whose planet also rules the day are marked, since practice prizes the two agreeing. A PLANNER THAT ANSWERS WHEN Choose the planets you want, say whether the hour must fall on that planet's own day, and search up to a year ahead. Save any result with a note and an alert. The Moon's sign and its void-of-course state show beside every hour. The Moon is reckoned void by the modern definition, counting Uranus, Neptune and Pluto alongside the classical planets, which is what most published void tables do. Switch to the traditional reckoning in Settings if you prefer the six. ON THE HOME SCREEN Widgets for the Home Screen and the Lock Screen keep the ruling planet and the time left in view. HONEST ABOUT ITS SOURCES The uses of each hour are quoted word for word from S. L. MacGregor Mathers' 1889 translation of the Key of Solomon, read from page images of the first edition rather than from a transcription. The metals come from Agrippa, 1651. Chaucer in 1391, Agrippa in 1651 and William Lilly in 1647 are each quoted on where these hours are attested. Planetary hours are far older than Wicca, and the app says so plainly. COMPUTED ON YOUR DEVICE Sunrise and sunset are solved to the second and agree with the US Naval Observatory to within about half a minute. Nothing needs a signal. Your location never leaves your phone. Inside the Arctic and Antarctic circles, on a day with no sunrise, the app tells you there are no hours rather than inventing them. One price. No subscription, no account, no advertising, no tracking.
