Description

Planetary Positions calculates the positions of the Sun, the Moon and all eight planets for any date and time - and shows them clearly on one screen. The calculations are based on the complete VSOP87 planetary theory and on the algorithms of Jean Meeus' "Astronomical Algorithms", including nutation, Delta T and the equation of time. POSITIONS - Heliocentric and geocentric coordinates - Ecliptic (longitude, latitude, distance) or equatorial (right ascension, declination) - Solar system view with orbits and a sky strip along the ecliptic TIME - Universal Time, Terrestrial Dynamical Time, Julian Day and Julian Ephemeris Day - Your own time zone - Step through time from 1 second to 1 year, or let it run EVENTS - find the last and next - Opposition, conjunction and greatest elongation - Equinoxes and solstices - Solar and lunar eclipses - Moon phases, perigee and apogee, lunar nodes INFO PAGES - Physical and orbital data for the Sun, the Moon and every planet - Magnitude, apparent diameter, phase and elongation - Jupiter with the current positions of its four Galilean moons - Saturn as seen from Earth, with the current ring opening - The Moon with phase, libration, node, and a rotating Earth with continents and grid - Clear illustrations explaining coordinates, conjunction, opposition, elongation, equinox, solstice, moon phases, lunar nodes, apogee and perigee, and eclipses Planetary Positions is made for everyone who wants to understand the sky - students, amateur astronomers and anyone curious about how the solar system moves.
