Description

Command is a browser designed for making sense of the internet. The browser comes with a web highlighter, internet journal, and integrations to major notes apps. WEB HIGHLIGHTER Read the internet like a book with Command’s web highlighter. Markup pages to help read webpages. INTERNET JOURNALS Capture the information you come across into Command Journals. Save things like memes, webpages, and more for easy access. READING LIST Save articles to read and annotate at a later time without filling up your bookmarks. Articles can even be added from outside the app! INTEGRATIONS Command integrates with major notes apps like Notion, Readwise, and OneNote so that you can remember what you read and send the things you collect to your knowledge base. STAY FOCUSED With highlighting, ad blocking, and no notifications, Command is designed to keep you focused while you read. BE SECURE With no third party servers your data stays with you. Review: I have been looking for ways to integrate with Notion in more meaningful ways. That is where all of my highlights and book notes are kept (syncs with Kindle highlights through Readwise, and my physical notes sync through Readwise). Why I have never heard of this app before, I’ll never know. I was looking for a way to highlight article and take notes without a subscription. I like Pocket, and I have tried Instapaper, but Command Browser has replaced them both. Not only does this natively integrate with Notion (which is so, so cool by the way) but it can ALSO integrate with Readwise (which, by extension, can integrate with Notion for a small annual fee). So now I can natively sync with Notion, or I can choose to integrate with Readwise to preserve my knowledge template there. This is a very long review, but let me make it very simple for you. If you are a Notion user, get this app. Seriously. That simple. You will LOVE IT. And it just works.

I’ve tried using different extensions and apps for web highlighting, but none feel as good as Command. I love that Command will still show the highlight on the screen, even after reloading the page. The Readwise integration is also very nice, and I like that tags added in Command carry over to Readwise. Not even Readwise’s own app lets you add tags right from the web page on mobile — you have to manually open the app and add tags later. Unfortunately, I’ve been using Command less and less lately because the Share -> Open in Command button in Safari hasn’t been working since the last update two months ago. Pressing Open in Command just takes me to a blank white web page, and it has to do with how Command has been automatically formatting web links. Links sent from Safari to Command will open as https// instead of https://. It’s been super inconvenient to have to manually edit every link myself just so the page will open. Please fix this.

It has clean and pretty UI, robust utilities to accommodate basically any function one needs from this sort of website collecting/highlighting apps, and it combines all those features into just one app, making the whole process much easier and quicker, doing it better all the other similar apps in my opinion. I’ve only recently heard that it now can integrate with Notion and sync the highlights, which is really convenient for me because I’m a heavy Notion user, and so I started to use this app more frequently now. The syncing function’s good, easy setup, and the syncing is really fast, I like it a lot. The only thing is that it cannot sync the notes taken along with the highlights, which means that I still have to transfer the notes manually to pair off with every individual highlight in Notion, and that hinders the efficiency a bit. Really hope there would be a note syncing function as well in the future updates, just a personal wish.

It was quite a crowd- The developer even highlighted which user was the TOP contributer per week! Yes, lowly us of User land. AND- we also payed for the app the old fashioned way, for Seven Bucks! But the word User became a painfully ironic word; as over time the ratio of user contributions eclipsed the rate timing of the developer's actual work. App Updates became more spaced out. And presumably so, the Developer himself- as he ghosted me and we haven't heard from him since iOS 17. In conclusion before I start crying, I've included snippet of my past feedback from our honeymoon days: "...To note, The developer has what it takes and makes to be a role model for the rest in the apple community. Kudos. Proudly paid for this app! UPDATE: Still using command and have watched it grow! The dev is ON TOP of their work, receptive to feedback and easy to contact.." Developer, you have my number 😭

This is the way mobile browsing need to be addressed, in my opinion. The pop up system is a leap forward and it is by itself a triple A feature, the tab system is finally usable and snappy and although much will surely be done the overall experience is really great. Kudos. The less nice part of the review follows. - What happened to copy and paste ? Basically, long pressing on a selection or on a text box or input box results (at least here) in a nice small menu with some autoFill option with password and contacts. No copy no paste no share … I looked around especially for copy and paste but still no luck here . Surely I may be looking into the wrong place but still - Blocking files ? Many times, especially when loading viewable files like pdf or when loading files that appears as metadata (like epub) and are not downloaded immediately . It happens when the connection is slow either on my or on server side. Let’s say the file is big and it takes twenty seconds to load: I have no easy way to cancel the loading and the done button does not work. The browser is responsive I mean I can do some kind of random taps and achieve the tab menu and I have the bar loading but still Thanks again

Now could we just have a Default zoom % setting? 🙏 Not sure if still true… - syncing to Notion still fails silently (in fact claims to sync) - crashes every time I long-press a piece of highlighted text, choose Journal, then OK it. Thanks! Also ... 1⃣ Notion integration needs reworking IMO so that tags made in Command stay attached to specific highlights (as they are when they are created in Command) . Currently, when sent to Notion, tags get rolled up into a bundle as a property of a URL and as a result information (that tag X was attached to highlight Y) is LOST. To fix this, I think the Highlights table needs to have each *highlight* as its entity/row/granularity, rather than URL. Ideally a related "Pages" table with URL as base would store page title and page-scope comments. If that's hard (or not possible to auto-populate related fields?) then URL and page title could just be properties of each highlight in the Highlight table, with those values repeated for each highlight in a page. 2⃣ I really miss being able to highlight also from my laptop and to see highlights I've made in the past. A Chrome extension would be perfect. 3⃣ Data protection: I'd love to know that my Notion data isn't being exposed to accidental sharing or even erasing.

For doing research at my desktop, it would be nice to have this browser available as an option to use. I have been using it even though it is not verified. It is mostly working except a few gamebreaking bugs. 1. When you go into a menu and try to go to another deeper menu, it does not recognize the input. (Example: Highlights > Sync Menu) This causes issues with setting up the app for syncing. 2. Resizing the window makes pages render a bit weirdly and inputs will not work when you click on the screen (IE Highlighting) 3. It does not scale the website in the browser itself. Text is smaller than it should be I am not sure what it would take to get it working on the M1 Mac as an offical app, but I feel like this is a good start on some dealbreakers right now. Let me know if you want me to provide screenshots or screencaps so you can see the behavior in action.

It is so brilliantly designed and executed that if you made it your default browser you will immediatley notice a change in your own behavior on a daily basis (assume you browse the web from your phone everyday). The principles Command embodies should’ve been the web browsing world’s standard in the first place. If you feel something is broken in web browsing - Command is probably the fix… and it syncs your highlights to the likes of Readwise and Notion. Respect!

I want to replace my current setup of alternative between SigmaOS and Sidekick as my browsers. Would love to just use Command and use Matter App as my Clipping tool.

It’s truly a great browser that I’ve been waiting for. Finally, highlighting on the web itself without copying and pasting it somewhere! What lacks greatly is the inability to use other search engines. I’d prefer to use DuckDuckGo instead of Google. Could this be added soon?
