What's that noise? Mechd helps you make sense of a noise your car is making, so you know what to ask your garage. Record the noise and answer two quick questions. Mechd then suggests: • what it could be, and two other possibilities • how urgent it might be: "Book in when convenient", "Get it checked soon" or "Don't drive" • a rough estimate of what a UK garage might charge for your car HOW IT WORKS 1. With the car parked, hold your phone close to the noise and record up to 10 seconds. If the noise only happens on the move, ask a passenger to record it. 2. Say when the noise happens and where it seems to come from. Add your car's make, model and year for a more realistic price, and describe the sound if you like. 3. See your result, and share a plain-text summary with your garage. YOUR RECORDING STAYS ON YOUR PHONE Mechd measures the sound on your iPhone and never uploads the audio. To write your result, it sends your answers, anything you type, your car and measurements of the sound to our server and on to Anthropic, whose AI writes the result. Mechd asks your permission before the first time. There are no accounts, no adverts and no tracking. WHAT MECHD IS NOT Mechd gives suggestions, not an inspection. Results are written by AI from your recording and answers, so they can be wrong or miss a fault, and different faults can sound alike. Prices are rough estimates of what a UK garage might charge, not quotes. A result is not a safety check or an MOT. If your car feels or sounds wrong, don't drive it until a qualified mechanic has checked it, whatever Mechd says. SAFETY Only use Mechd when you're parked. Never while driving. Keep your phone, hands and clothing clear of moving and hot parts.
