No. To put this simply, the information, guides, and workbooks you get for this program are at a good price. Yes it’s a subscription but it’s a valuable one. Learning about cooking, negotiating, gardening, business, finance from some of the most outstanding and intelligent people out there is a fantastic opportunity. I am a nobody, but I love learning about business and this has helped me tremendously from the few months I’ve had it. As some of the greats have said, “listen to each side, you might learn something you didn’t already know.” The most important part, repetition. Once you have a skill down, listen or watch it again to better hone your skill. Knowledge is not cheap, you can either learn it by your experience or speed the process up by learning from someone else in the field you want to be in. Did this become a long and drawn out review? In my opinion, yes. Was this helpful to the next person deciding to purchase this subscription, learn new concepts, apply them in their lives and become part of a larger master mind group? Well, only you can decide. If this helps you decide to get the subscription I can promise you it’s work it. Keep learning my friends. Be a student, not a follower

A year later my wife gifted me an unlimited subscription and I have been absorbing some of the greatest content from true experts that I have ever found. Master Classes are each independent and different in their own ways because the producers let the experts dictate the pace and the topics that are most important to the instructor and therefore the audience. Over the last 6months I have watched at least 25 full classes and parts and pieces of close to 25 more. There is so much amazing content. I devour the marketing/ business and off beat topics. I have learned skateboarding from Tony Hawk, Magic from Penn and Teller, and the inside story as to how Disney purchased Pixar directly from the man who orchestrated it. I see different topics that I think, that doesn’t interest me, but when I watch the opener I am usually hooked, and later find so many things that are applicable to me in my personal and professional life. I am always recommending Master Class to others. Where else can you get inside the thought process of a writer, composer, chef, skater, magician, designer, photographer, negotiator and so many more. It’s amazing. Thank you for all the time that has been dedicated to making these classes so engaging, educational, and entertaining.

If you want to be successful you've gotta model others who have what you desire, but model them in finding yourself and your truth. I bought the full year Masterclass a little over a week ago as I'm always looking to further my knowledge and skills at anything I do. Being a full-time musician I've already watched the Carlos Santana & Christina Masterclasses and they were both very insightful! There is so many years of experience between those two amazingly talented musicians and to delve into the minds of people that are so successful at what they do is absolutely invaluable! I believe the trick to getting the best out of this Masterclass and learning in general is to listen with an open mind and pick the things that YOU deem useful for yourself that you can apply to whatever it is you are doing and just discard the rest. I mean even if you get 1-2 useful things per Masterclass that you can utilize for the rest of your life to make you a better musician, actor, or whatever it is you do then it's worth it! I always say that you have to be willing to invest in yourself because if you're not willing to invest in yourself then why should anyone else invest in you? I'll leave you with this quote that sums it up very nicely, "A true master realizes he/she is always a student." So glad I decided to give Masterclass a try as I've already gotten so much valuable info in just 2 classes and I'm planning on taking many more over the year membership! MASTERCLASS ROCKS!

For example, this week I can longer go back to a previous lesson I watched within a class but last week I could. I contacted their help desk today. I am sure they will fix it but then something else will break from the fix. They never appear to test their latest fix to see if it broke another part that used to work. Here’s another example: on my user profile it used to display the classes I completed. Now it does not. But it now lists the class I completed as in progress. This isn’t as harmful as the first issue but it again demonstrates how awful their software testing department is, if they even have one. The evidence so far indicates that they do not. So we can assume the company is chronically understaffed so don’t waste your money on a company that is not run in a professional way. I am sad to say this because I really enjoy the classes. It’s a darn shame they can’t get the basics of running a well known brand with with excellence.

For years I have been a fan of the Great Courses but many of their classes are soooooo boring in the way they are delivered, that I longed for more and had to push myself to finish a lot of them. They are showing improvement in their content- in part because of these people, I think. Competitors should push each other to improve because we all win that way. MasterClass right out of the box is a highly produced and high quality bunch of classes by those who have reached the top performance levels in their crafts. I have enjoyed the classes I have seen immensely and really learned a lot as a result. In fact, I couldn’t wait to see the next one! Actually, each class is so interesting, and they make you feel like you could actually do what they are teaching you to do. It’s also really cool to see these people differently than their basic professional personas. The classes that I have seen have really shown people with a high degree of passion for what they are teaching, and teaching it in such a way that all of us can engender that passion. It is so worth the investment to get the all access pass. It’s not cheap, but totally worth it. And they keep adding classes frequently. The accompanying class workbook is also pretty helpful. About the only thing I would add as a point of improvement to the app itself is to make it easier to search for those parts of the classes you are already taking. It seems to require a little more hunting than I would like to do.

I can’t believe I’m even having to write this, but this “video teaching tool” actually doesn’t allow the user to rewind, fast forward, or skip forward or back 10 seconds. A video teaching tool where students can’t stop, rewind, and watch something again if they want. Basically none of the typical video controls that Apple offers to developers are used in the MasterClass ATV app. It’s maddening. To pay all this money for a yearly subscription and have an Apple TV app that’s this bad? To not be able to watch a video-based educational tool on the biggest screen in your house with basic fast-forward, rewind, and skip forward/back functionality seems like a joke, but one that paid subscribers aren’t laughing at. It wouldn't take much to fix it. Just use the video API’s that Apple makes available to all developers in the tvOS SDK toolkit, and make it so that students can rewind/rewatch a segment, fast-forward, and do all the normal video watching stuff using the Apple TV remote in the same way they can when watching HBO or Netflix. Also, it would be nice to be able to add + a program to “My List” the way iOS app and web users can. There is zero reason why the ATV app shouldn’t be as good or better than it is on other devices. If they don’t do some serious work on the ATV app, I won’t renew my subscription. An app this bad is user-hostile.

I’ll name a few of the larger problems, but there are many smaller ones. 1) When Chromecasting, the next lesson will not play automatically, but it will be queued up on the phone not playing. To play the next video you need to start playing a different one (this will cause it to disconnect from the chrome device) and then go back to the video you want and reconnect to the chrome device. 2) If you pause a video and leave the app open it will remain paused for 10-20 minutes and then begin paying again of its own accord on the phone in the background. This has happened twice and the first time it ran the entire night while I was asleep and marked all lessons played in that course. 3) If you want to browse through a course or simply add it to your list, the first video plays automatically and you have to pause it. So if you’re enrolling in many courses you have to start and pause a dozen times in a row just to add some courses to your list. Overall the service is great, but the app needs some work.

And apparently there is no way to stop it (I’ve checked all the settings I can find) except to click on it immediately, which totally destroys the mood of finishing meditation. And quit auto deleting an episode once we have finished. Did you ever consider that some of us would like to go back and review something we just heard? This app is for learning, right? I had to download the whole series in order to be able to go back to episodes I had listened to. Ridiculously frustrating. And don’t ask me to submit a support ticket for this, like you do for so many other people who make suggestions. You should have the ability to make your own support tickets and fix things that bring your ratings down. Quit passing the buck on these things! There are consistent themes in these reviews: make this app easier to use; and make this app easy to cancel. Just be up front and do things right. Quit trying to be gimmicky. It just might pay off in the end.

Even simply navigating the app and adding classes to my list is a tedious game of workarounds. Honestly, don’t buy a Masterclass pass until they fix this app; the frustrations made me wish I hadn’t activated it. Someone needs to teach a Masterclass on the basics of app development so the Masterclass team can watch it. The current app execution unfortunately fails those who put in time and effort to provide the content, and is a waste of time for those who attempt to view it. App devs, I beg you to embrace the challenge before you and make this at least more functional. Ask several people of differing age groups to try to use this and just watch them. Don’t help them; merely observe what they do and you’ll understand the most immediate missteps to correct, whether it be a bug or user experience (I suspect you’ll find both).

The app appears to be primarily video based and so casting the content to a larger screen is essential to really immersing oneself in the content. Once you start casting, it becomes difficult to pause, fast forward and rewind the content because the interface to control those functions goes away as soon as your phone goes to sleep. There is no way to access those controls after your device display goes to sleep except to restart the content. I should specify that I have a fully up to date iPhone 14 Pro Max, and as an IT professional I can attest that it’s not “user error”. It would also be nice if the app summarized some of the key points for review. Ultimately, I am satisfied with my purchase and hope that the company will implement some of my suggestions to improve the product. Keep up the good work!
