Description

A development tool for building VR in Unreal Engine on a Mac. Unreal Engine supports VR through OpenXR, but macOS has never had an OpenXR runtime — which is why VR development has meant keeping a Windows machine around. OpenVisionXR is that missing runtime, and the headset it presents to the engine is the Apple Vision Pro you already own. Install the free OpenVisionXR software on your Mac, open this app on the headset, and press Play in VR Preview. Your level is in front of you. IMPORTANT: this app is the headset half of a two-part development tool. It requires the free OpenVisionXR software for macOS, available at https://openvisionxr.com, and a VR application running on that Mac. It does nothing on its own. WHAT IT DOES - Displays the frames your Mac renders, decoded in hardware - Sends your head pose back to the Mac, so the view follows you - Tracks both hands and every finger, delivered to Unreal as ordinary hand input - Supports PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers — both tracked in six degrees of freedom, with buttons, triggers, thumbsticks and haptics - Carries audio in both directions - Finds your Mac on the local network automatically — nothing to configure HOW IT WORKS The Mac software installs as a standard OpenXR runtime and includes a plugin for Unreal Engine 5.7. There is no special integration to write: the engine sees a headset and renders to it through its normal VR path, using the same Blueprint nodes, input actions and motion-controller components you would use with any other headset. Each frame is encoded in hardware on the Mac and sent over Wi-Fi or a USB-C cable. The headset decodes it in hardware and reprojects the image against your current head pose, so motion stays locked to your head while the next frame is still in flight. WHAT YOU NEED - A Mac with Apple silicon, running macOS 14 or newer - The free OpenVisionXR software for macOS: https://openvisionxr.com - Both devices on the same network — Wi-Fi 6E recommended, or a USB-C cable - Unreal Engine 5.7, or another macOS application that uses OpenXR - Optionally, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers — hand tracking works without them This app contains no games or content of its own. It is a tool for developers building VR. PlayStation and PlayStation VR2 Sense are trademarks of Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. Unreal and Unreal Engine are trademarks of Epic Games, Inc. OpenXR is a trademark of The Khronos Group Inc. These names are used only to state compatibility; OpenVisionXR is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them. PRIVACY Video, tracking and audio travel only between your headset and your own Mac on your own network. Nothing is sent to us and nothing is stored outside your devices.
